In your country, my dear, believe me
in different world I myself find,
even the wells there smell of wine,
and the stones full of rose aroma…

By these verses Jaroslav Seifert, Nobel Prize winner for literature, expressed his celebration in one of many poems inspired by his frequent visits in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. Petr Bezruč also called one of his panegyric poems “The town below Radhošť”. And so we could continue. Let us remember every year’s wandering of the world-famous photographer Josef Sudek in our countryside, the works of painter Antonín Strnadel, sculptor Albín Polášek and many orher artists. Let us also remember foundation of the first Czech tourist club Pohorská jednota Radhošť (Mountain Association Radhošť) in 1884. All of this proves the fact that the charming valley in the middle of the mountains Moravské Beskydy, Javorníky and foothills of Oderské vrchy always called and still calls upon visit to the town of Frenštát.

From here, it is possible to take easy, one day trips to the castle and to the game park of Hukvaldy, to Štramberk’s tower, to see the so called Wallachian Bethlehem, the museum of cars in Kopřivnice, to see the open-air museum in Rožnov and the cosy houses of the architect Dušan Jurkovič in Pustevny and perhaps to acquaint the life and work of Petr Bezruč in his Museum in Staré Hamry.

All of this will be enabled by the Hotel Bartoš, located advantageously in the middle of sport grounds with clay tennis courts, near a winter stadium, football pitch, ski jumps with plastic material which have been built in honour of Jiří Raška, the Olympic winner and world champion from Grenoble. The municipal museum with rich expositions and the new picture gallery are on the square which is a protected cultural monument. You are invited to visit the town below Radhošť.

Another trip we have prepared for you goes back to the history of automobiles and trucks Tatra which have been manufactured for years in the town of Kopřivnice not far from here. Museum in Kopřivnice guides you through the history of these beautiful cars from the very beginnings, when they looked like horse-drawn carriages rather than cars, up to the present day and the cars we all know or remember. A visitor may peek into the internal parts of the cars, find out what components they consist of and what Tatra used to manufacture until recently.

A glimpse into the history of the museum Tatra Kopřivnice

Museum Tatra Kopřivnice originated shortly after the War in 1947 with a help of the town of Kopřivnice. For this purpose the town council of Kopřivnice allocated to the originating museum one of the historical buildings. In 1953 the main goal of the museum was exhibiting stoneware and automobile industry products. In 1967 the company administration got hold of the museum which was subsequently replaced into a glass building situated not far from the Tatra process plant. Since 1982 Technical museum has been in possession of the famous historic object knows as Fojtsví, which had been protected by the National Institute for the Protection and Conservation of Monuments and Sites of the Czech Republic.

The museum building had been undergoing a progressive reconstruction and as a result a ceremonial opening of a new, modern building in the centre of Kopřivnice took place in 1997. In March 2004 the roof of the old museum collapsed under a heavy layer of snow, causing a damage of several hundred thousands. The historically valuable exhibits were replaced to the new depositary in the premises of Tatra.

New exhibits

Since April 2009 3 new exhibits (private care T603 B5, T613 Mobicom and T700 GT) have been on display in the museum of Tatra.

We believe you will not only enjoy the tour of the Museum in Kopřivnice but also return sometime in the future to find out what is new.

The picturesque town of Štramberk is one of the places we highly recommend to everyone. All along the way up to the famous watchtower Trúba a visitor enjoys the history of the place: narrow lanes, houses built on the hillside, nostalgic old and new timbered outbuildings.

The castle of Štramberk and its history

The Trúba watchtower is together with the preserved fortification the only remnant of the Castle of Štramberk which was known in the first half of the 14th century as a fortress. The shape of the castle corresponded to the then building customs which are observable in other Czech castles. When the castle was built remains, however, unclear.

The history tells us that there used to stand two fortresses on the Kotouč hill. During John of Bohemia’s reign a new, more solid castle was built which would be rebuilt many times in the following years. It was John Henry, Margrave of Moravia who gave the castle its final shape which includes a watchtower and fortress. During the reign of the Žerotín dynasty the castle of Štramberk received a new roof.

The original function of the castle was probably guarding the trade route from Opava region to Hungary. This route crossed the route going from Olomouc to Silesia. It is presumable that John of Bohemia entrusted one of his subjects with the construction of the fortress which, subsequently, fell upon him. It is very likely that subject was Vok of Kravaře, whose manor was situated north of Štramberk.

In the 15th century the castle fell upon Hustopeče; the last nobleman of this dynasty – Lacek - later on (1523) sold the castle to Bernard of Žerotín, the owner of the castle of Fulnek. Further on Nový Jičín came into possession of the castle. The castle, however, was dilapidating and its refurbishment only commenced in 1613 whereby only the castle roofs were repaired. Further arrangements took place during the Thirty Years War when Jesuits hid in the castle. The castle was abandoned in 1773 and remained so until the 19th century.

The stairway leading up to Trúba was built around 1860 and at the same time a new room was constructed where a skittle alley and tavern were established later on. Owing to the venture not being profitable the castle was shut down and dilapidate until the late 19th century.

When railways started to expand first tourists came to Štramberk and shortly after it became a place popular with trippers and hikers. The wooden sidewalk under the top of Trúba was created at the same time, offering fantastic views to all points of compass. Subsequently, the fortress was bought by the Association of Czech tourists which would administer the watchtower until 1950 when it was nationalized. In 1994 the castle (or rather, the remains of it) came back to possession of Štramberk.

We believe you will enjoy your trip to this remarkable place with splendid history, fauna and flora, and visit Štramberk more frequently. It is not only the Trúba which is worth seeing, the world-known cave of Šipka or recently established Arboretum in an old quarry, which is popular among climbers, are worth seeing as well. We will be please to acquaint you with these landmarks sometime later.

Recently re-opened natural trail Mionší goes along the edge of the Mionší forest and is allegedly the most beautiful and elaborate natural trail in Beskydy mountain range. We recommend following this trail to any one of our clients who look for interesting spots in the environs of the hotel.

Mionší natural trail

The Mionší forest if one of the most well-preserved areas in the Moravian part of the Western Carpathian Mountains. After 16 years the trail is open again, offering nature lovers rich experiences. In the national natural reserve Mionší around 110 species of vertebrates are found and it is at the same time the most important mycological locality in the Czech Republic. An abundance of underbush, small meadows, spring areas and rocks is to be found here.

The natural trail acquaints one with the original dwellers of the mountains – rare species and animals. One finds out here what the difference between a commercial and natural forest is. A visitor reveals why was this area progressively being settled and why has Mionší been protected from humans for more than 100 years.

The natural train is approximately 7 kilometres long and offers 10 signboards. The goal of the natural trail is to point out to the visitors the beauties of the local primeval forest.

Basic information for visitors

The natural trail open June 1 to September 15 only.

The whole trail takes about 2,5 to 3 hours of walk.

The trail is of middle difficulty with a camber of 330 m.

The trail starts in Dolní Lomná approximately 200 metres from the Matyščina louka bus stop. Parking here has been possible only for a short time.

The trail is accessible for individuals and groups. If you require a guide the town may assign you one.

The trail is accessible at one’s own risk! It is advisable not to visit the trail in strong wind as there is a danger of falling trees.

About a third of the trail is a narrow footway, therefore, it is not suitable for prams.

We wish all our customers a pleasant stay not only in Hotel Bartoš but also in the beautiful environs.

We recommend this resort to anyone who likes mountains, winter sports and hiking. What makes Pustevny so interesting and unique?

Why Pustevny

Pustevny is a popular and sough-after resort in the altitude of 1018 above sea level. Its Czech name refers to hermits who used to live in the area in the past.

The all-year-round busy resort is found in the protected area Beskydy, which is with its 1166 km2 the largest protected area in the Czech Republic.

In the central part of Pustevny picturesque and emblazoned wooden homes built in a folk style by the famous Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič may be admired.

Eastern horizons

From the eastern part of Pustevny a natural trail will lead you to Čertův mlýn (The Devil’s mill) where one can admire the beautiful rock formations. The natural trail is made up of 9 signboards dealing with the history or Pustevny and other matters of interest in Beskydy and the environs.

Looking out west

Those who set out for a journey west will get to the statue of Radegast, a pagan god of crop, which was hoisted back in 1931. The western natural trail goes on to the very top of Radhošť which is adorned by a wooden chapel and the statue of St. Cyril and Methodius who paid a visit to Moravia in 863.

Three tourist signs lead to the famous place of pilgrimage – red, green or blue.

The red trail

The red trail is approximately 8 kilometres long. Its starting point is a lower bridge in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the trail then goes on along Rožnov camping site, climbs up the Černá hora (The Black mountain) hill-side all to the way to St. Cyril and Methodius chapel situated on the top of the mountain Radhošť.

The green trail

A 10-kilometre long blue trail will lead you from the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm via the town of Dolní Bečva all the way up to Pustevny. The blue trail crosses the ridge trail not far from Radegast Hotel. The trail then goes on to the Ráztoka valley and finally Frenštát pod Radhoštěm.

The blue trail

The trail is 4 kilometres long and goes from Pustevny along the Cyrilka bower and the Radegast statue. The whole Frenštát valley can be seen from here. On the horizon rises the Trúba, a rock formation Čertův mlýn (The Devil’s Mill) and the highest summit of the Beskydy mountain range – Lysá hora (1323m above sea level). The blue trail is the least difficult of the three.

A view

At the end of the rise a wonderful view opens. When the sky is clear Hrubý Jeseník, Oderské vrchy, Strážovské vrchy, Vsetínské vrchy and Javorníky (all mountain ranges) can be spotted. The panorama of Pobeskydská highlands, Slezské Beskydy (Silesian Beskydy), Choč and even Roháče (The West Tatra Mountains) and Malá Fatra can be enjoyed, too.

Winter sports

Pustevny is a fantastic spot for lovers of winter sports, especially skiing and snowboarding. The resort features 11 ski lifts and 9 slopes of all kinds of difficulty. Pustevny is a wonderful place which can be enjoyed regardless of the season of the year.

We wish all our hotel visitors a pleasant time both spent with us and in the vicinity.
